IoT devices are the fundamental technologies of Society 5.0, which are indispensable for the development of Japan that enable intelligent systems to be mounted on the edge side. However, in the conventional IoT devices, since the memory for information storage is volatile (forget information when the power is turned off), in the edge side system where power supply is restricted, it is difficult to realize processing performance with the allowable power consumption.

In this R&D, we will apply the accomplishments related to spintronics created through the Cabinet Office ImPACT project etc. and develop the MTJ / CMOS Hybrid IoT devices and its technical platform that integrate magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ), which is expected to be put into practical use, with semiconductor integrated circuit (CMOS) technologies in order to achieve social implementation at an early stage

Specifically, by providing the IoT device with nonvolatile function (not forgetting information even when the power is turned off) in addition to the processing function, the standby power is drastically reduced and the dilemma between the conventional power consumption and the processing performance Is eliminated. In this way, we aim to establish a platform technology for innovative IoT devices with ultra low power consumption (1/5 - 1/10 compared to conventional) required for physical space.

In addition, we have established the technology platform (an integrated system from development and manufacturing to module design) of IoT devices consisting of circuit IPs, design tools, PDK, etc., which are indispensable for IoT device development by defining the application fields: (1) edge surveillance, (2) mobility, (3) environment tolerance, (4) connectivity, in order to implement social implementation of the developed technologies. We also promote cooperation with innovative sensor technology team, common platform technology team, social implementation technology team. By this, we aim to improve the development and production efficiency of MTJ / CMOS Hybrid IoT devices by 10 times.

We will contribute to the realization of Society 5.0 by social implementation of this developed ultra-low-power MTJ / CMOS Hybrid IoT device and its platform technology.

Your support would be appreciated.
